Programs
Junior Umpire Program
The Sammamish Little league Youth Umpire Program helps increase the involvement of neighborhood youth in the game of baseball, increase a participant’s knowledge of the rules of the game, and enhance our community’s volunteer umpire resources. Active participation in the program can result in either community service learning hours or monetary compensation. The ultimate goal of this program, like all Little League programs, is to give kids the opportunity to learn, succeed and be rewarded in a challenging but safe environment.

Youth Umpires are between the ages of 13-17. Sammamish Little League provides training, equipment and rule books. The program currently covers the three highest levels of baseball and the two highest levels of softball. Youth Umpires cover both field and plate positions for Coast and AAA games. They are in the field for Majors games with a Senior Umpire behind the plate.
For more information on the program please contact umpireinchief@sammamishlittleleague.org.
Sportsmanship Program
Sportsmanship (Webster’s dictionary): the qualities and behaviors of a person who can take a loss or defeat without complaint, or victory without gloating, and who treats his opponents with fairness, generosity, courtesy and respect.
SLL’s Sportsmanship program exists to encourage good sportsmanship from everyone participating in Little League games, including players, coaches and spectators. The program involves:
1. Setting expectations on what acceptable sportsmanship looks like
-
Good sportsmanship is incorporated throughout SLL’s and Little League’s system of values as outlined in the SLL constitution and bylaws and the league’s About Us web page. Players, coaches, parents and volunteers are expected to exhibit good sportsmanship toward one another, umpires and league officials at all times.
-
Coaches are requested to act as excellent examples of good sportsmanship for their players and set expectations with parents and spectators that poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated.
-
Reminders of what good sportsmanship is and expectations of players, coaches and parents are posted at SLL baseball fields.
Sammamish Little League Safety Program
The goal of the Sammamish Little League Safety Program is twofold:
-
to establish education and awareness channels for matters of safety and well-being of player, families and staff, and
-
to establish guidelines and operational procedures that will help ensure safety objectives are met.
All Sammamish Little League participants, volunteers, spectators, and guests are responsible for helping create a safe environment for one another.

The Safety Officer is responsible for maintaining and overseeing the Safety Program. One of his primary responsibilities is to create awareness, through education, documentation and communication, of safety matters and to establish guidelines and policies that will help provide the safe environment for players, families and staff alike. The Safety Officer updates the Safety Plan prior to each season. Once approved by the Board, the Safety Plan is files with Little League, Inc., published with the updated Local Rules and Operating Guidenlines and distributed to the Manager/Coaches as part of the required annual Safety Training prior to the start of the season.

Little League’s Child Protection program - The Little League Child Protection Program seeks to educate children and volunteers in ways to prevent child abusers from becoming involved in the local league. A core element of the SLL Safety Program is ensuring all volunteers with access to minors pass a criminal history and background check through the United States Department of Justice National Sex Offender Registry (www.nsopr.gov). For this reason, Sammamish Little League requires all volunteers who have direct access to children as part of their volunteer service to register as a volunteer and pass the criminal background check prior to volunteeting. Learn more about Little League’s Child Protection program HERE.
Pitch Count Limits by Little League – Little League publishes official regulations and playing rules each year which include setting limits on the number of pitches and/or innings a player may pitch in specified time frames (view Pitch Count and Days of Rest Rules HERE). Coaches and managers should know these rules well since they are accountable not only to their local league officials but to Little League International for complying with the established limits.
Reporting an injury* - In the unfortunate case a player sustains an injury while participating in league activities, follow these initial steps (links to all instructions and forms are in the safety plan):

-
Treat the injury and seek professional medical attention without delay as appropriate. At all times, an injury should be immediately reported to an SLL coach or manager – even if it’s a coach or manager of another team.
-
Notify the SLL Safety Officer by email (provided below) of the incident within 24 hours.
-
Complete the Injury/Incident report and send to SLL Safety Officer within 48 hours.
After initial reporting of the incident to the SLL Safety Officer, it’s required that an AIG accident notification form be received by Little League International within 20 days of the incident. The Safety Officer can guide you though that process and further steps, as appropriate.
If you have any questions about anything covered above or in the Safety Plan – or related to safety and not covered in the plan – please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly - that’s what I’m here for.
Thank you,
